Cochran – Mrs. Aliene Lewis Dykes, age 93, passed away Monday, July 2, 2018, in Westwood Nursing Center in Statesboro. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 5, 2018, at 11:00 A.M. in the First Baptist Church in Cochran with Rev. Keith Rustin and Rev. Ken Brooks officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service from 10:00 A.M. until time for the service at Cochran First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery. On this day, July 5, Aliene and Tom Watson would have been married 71 years.

Mrs. Dykes was born October 21, 1924, in Dodge County to the late Robert C. and Rosa Pearl Lewis. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Tom Watson Dykes, her sister Lawrene Smith McCart, and her brother Calvin Lewis. Mrs. Dykes graduated from Chester High School in 1941. She went on to work at L & H Shirt Company in Cochran before marrying her husband in 1947. They lived in Statesboro where Tom Watson completed his education degree and where Janice was born. They then moved to Hawkinsville for three years, to Woodbury for six years, and then back to Cochran in 1957. In addition to working at L&H Shirt Company, Mrs. Dykes worked at Woodbury Banking Company in Woodbury, GA. She also was secretary at Cochran First Baptist Church for many years. Later she was secretary at Cochran Farm Bureau, a paraprofessional with Bleckley County School System, and a clerk at Georgia Power Company in Cochran for many years. Mrs. Dykes was an active member of Cochran First Baptist Church for decades. She taught Sunday School, worked with GA's, taught Vacation Bible School, was a WMU member and officer and served wherever she was needed.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in -law, Janice & Darryl Butler of Martinez; granddaughter and husband, Diana & Chris Paulus of Evans; grandson and wife, Brian & Mary-Ellen Butler of Evans; her great grandchildren, Brooke Newsome, Rylan Butler, Trace Butler, Kinley Butler, and great-great grandson, Asher Newsome. She is survived by her two brothers, Bernard Lewis of Chester and Vernon Lewis of Missouri and two sisters­ in-law, Joyce Lewis and Eulita Dykes. She is also survived by some very special nieces and nephews.

The family would like to especially thank Glenda and Ben Rogers and Pat and Ben Dykes who have been the best friends and neighbors anyone could have. We also would like to recognize and thank all the people at Westwood Nursing Center in Statesboro, GA, for their loving, professional, and compassionate care of Mom and to Southern Care Hospice for their loving care and support.
