Amelia Dennis Evans, age 80, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at Bryant Health & Rehabilitation in Cochran. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 30, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Mathis Funeral Home. The family will greet friends after the service at Mathis Funeral Home. Burial will be in Powers Cemetery in the Evans Family plot.
Born on June 27, 1945, in Eastman, Georgia, Amelia was the daughter of the late Leslie Dennis Sr. and Lola Evans Dennis. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, Robert P. Evans, and her brother, Leslie Dennis Jr.
Amelia spent most of her life in Cochran and graduated from Cochran High School with the Class of 1963. She went on to earn a bachelor's degree in education from Georgia Southwestern College and later completed a master's degree in education at Georgia Southern College. From an early age, Amelia knew she wanted to be a teacher. Her passion for nurturing young minds led her to a fulfilling career that spanned over three decades at Bleckley County Elementary School.
It was during her time teaching that she met Robert Evans. The two were married on September 27, 1969, beginning a lifelong partnership rooted in love and shared purpose.
Amelia is survived by her daughter, Leslie Michele Evans; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends who will remember her with affection and gratitude.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff of Georgia Hospice and Bryant Health & Rehabilitation for their compassionate care and support during Amelia's final days.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to an educational charity of your choice in honor of Amelia's lifelong dedication to learning.
May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.
