Obituary

Chester - Barbara Cavanah Amerson, age, 73, passed away Saturday, January 24, 2026, at Atrium Health Navicent Medical Center in Macon. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 29, 2026, at 3:00 P.M. in Pine Level Free Will Baptist Church in Chester. The family will greet friends one hour before the service Thursday at Pine Level Free Will Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

First and foremost, Barbara loved the Lord. Her faith guided her life and shaped the way she loved others. She was a devoted wife, a wonderful mother, and a proud grandmother whose greatest joy came from her husband, children, and grandchildren. She had a contagious smile that reflected her joy for life and made everyone around her feel welcome.

Barbara was a graduate of Twiggs Academy, Class of 1971, and later attended Middle Georgia College. Throughout most of her life, she worked in sales, a career she truly loved. She had a natural gift for connecting with people and never met a stranger. She began her sales career hosting Tupperware parties, enjoying both the work and the friendships she built. Her career ended with over 10 years selling phone book advertisements for military phone books with Marco Publishing of San Diego, California. Barbara genuinely enjoyed every minute of her work and loved people with her whole heart.

She was preceded in death by her father, Joe Cavanah; her mother, Joyce Riner Cavanah Crumpton; her brother, Michael Cavanah, her brothers-in-law, Billy Ray Amerson and Emory (Patsy) Amerson.

Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, John "Carroll" Amerson; her daughter, Crystal (Shawn) Little of Cochran; her son, Shane (Danielle) Amerson of Cochran; and her cherished grandchildren, Jetta Hattaway, Kenzie Hattaway, Emma Claire Amerson, and Harley Little; her brothers, Harold (Debra) Cavanah of Danville and Frank (Lisa) Cavanah of Cochran, along with several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and her several beloved family members and cousins.

Barbara will be remembered for her strong faith, her love for people, her contagious smile, and her unwavering devotion to her family. She leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love, kindness, and faith that will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
