Cochran - Bertie Lee Giddens Rowland, age 95, passed away at her daughter's residence Saturday, September 2, 2023. Funeral services will be held Monday, September 4, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Mathis Funeral Home. Burial will be private in Sweet Home Primitive Baptist Church in Chester.

Mrs. Bertie was born on May 23,1928 to the late Abe and Betty Giddens. Bertie was the oldest sibling to three brothers Robert, Earl, and Russell Giddens and two sisters, Betty Jean Floyd, and Ruthie Mae Holmes.  She graduated from Dodge County High in 1945 as the Third Honor Graduate in her class.  Mrs. Bertie married (James) Fred Rowland in 1947, and they would have four children, Wyndell, Donnie, Shelbie, and Stefanie.  She became a widow at 43 and continued to raise her children while she worked at L&H Shirt Factory.  Bertie worked at the "Shirt Factory" until it closed in 1987.  She then became a full time Granny to her grandchildren.  Bertie was preceded in death by her husband, all her siblings, and her two sons. She was the oldest member at Sweet Home Primitive Baptist Church.

She is survived by her daughters, Shelbie (Ernie) Purser and Stefanie (Lonnie) Dabbs all of Cochran, her grandchildren and great grandchildren, Shane Battle (Brandy), Megan, Christopher, Madison, Reagan, and Kennedy, Zachary Purser (Elizabeth), Isla, Dalton Dabbs (Charley), Ammons, Deacon, Lindsey Dabbs and Avery Johnson (Reed), Kyler, and Kodi Lee.  Her greatest joy in life (other than her Top Snuff 😊) was her grandchildren and great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Royal Care Assisted Living, 568 GA Highway 26 E., Cochran, GA 31014.

The family is at 440 Limestone Road, Cochran and will greet friends after the service Monday at Mathis Funeral Home.
