Cochran – Betty Dempsey Braswell, age 82, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 17, 2024, In Bleckley Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 23, 2024, at 1:00 P.M., in the chapel of Mathis Funeral Home. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Betty was born on March 3, 1942, in Dodge County. She was the daughter of the late John and Bertha Williams Dempsey and was preceded in death by her siblings, Myrtice Whigham, Curtis Dempsey, John L. Dempsey and Wendell Dempsey. Mrs. Betty was a graduate of Dodge County High School, Class of 1960. After high school she worked in Atlanta in insurance, later moving back to middle Georgia and worked at Robins Air Force Base. She then trained and became a licensed practical nurse. She worked for 29 years at Bryant nursing center, retiring in 2007. Mrs. Betty enjoyed trivia and loved watching Jeopardy! She was a faithful member of the Cochran church of Christ having joined in 1971. Mrs. Betty loved all of her family, especially her grandchildren, who she adored. She shared a special bond with her sisters and will be greatly missed by them.

Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Mr. Billy Braswell of Cochran; her children, Gene Braswell of Cochran and Kerri (Zachary) Carter of Macon; her grandchildren, Evan Carter and Morgan Carter; her siblings; Fay Rutherford, Judy (Orlando) Cabrera, David (Marolyn) Dempsey; her sisters-in-law, Bertie Sue Dempsey, Betty Dempsey, Jean (Joe) Hewett and Mary Ann Braswell; her brothers-in-law, Roger Braswell, Jerry (Shirley) Braswell and Earl (Betty) Braswell; numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will greet friends after the service Saturday in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
