Cochran – Blake Stephen Bivins, age 93, died March 13, 2022, in Emory University Midtown Hospital in Atlanta. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 19, 2022, at 11:00 A.M., at Mathis Funeral Home in Cochran. Burial will be in Mt. Vernon City Cemetery, in Mt. Vernon, Georgia at 3:00 pm.

Dr. Bivins, born in Mt. Vernon, GA on April 22, 1928, had lived most of his life in Cochran. He was the son of the late Julius Stephen Bivins and Ester Catherine Geiger Bivins and was preceded in death by his wife, Yvonne Wright Bivins. He was a 1945 graduate of Mt. Vernon High School and served in the U. S. Marine Corp. He graduated from Mercer University magna cum laude with a A.B. degree in biology and chemistry. He graduated from Medical College of Georgia in 1953. He interned at University Hospital in Augusta. In 1955, he started his medical practice in Cochran retiring in 1998. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Cochran.

Survivors are his children; Drake (Dr. Mary Moore) Bivins of Senoia and Camille Bivins Smith of Milledgeville; his grandchildren, Elizabeth (Andy) Davis of Atlanta, Hunter Bivins and Ethan Bivins of Senoia, Lauren Smith and Adam Smith of Milledgeville, his brothers Judson Bivins of Mt. Vernon and Harold Bivins, Sr. of Nashville, TN.

The family will greet friends after the funeral service Saturday at Mathis Funeral Home.
