Chester – Burney Gilbert, age 85, passed away Wednesday, June 28, 2023, in the Dodge County Hospital. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 1, 2023, at 1:00 P.M. in the chapel of Mathis Funeral Home. Burial will be private in Pulaski-Bleckley Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Burney was a lifelong resident of Chester. He was the son of the late William Emory and Vera Roland Gilbert and preceded in death by his daughter, Debbie Gilbert Collins and his brother, Barney Gilbert. He was owner and operator of Gilbert Shippers Shirt Company and was a former employee of Macon Shirt Factory. Mr. Burney loved his family, enjoyed fishing and motorcycles.

Survivors are his companion, Christine Stone of Chester; his children, Dianne (Randy) Rowland of Chester and Brenda (Donald) Sanders of Cochran; his grandchildren, Whitney (Justin) Sapp, Heath (Ambra) Rowland, Tonya Harris, Chad (Whitney) Collins and Blake (Kasey) Collins; great grandchildren, Lane, Lyla, Cale, Callie, Harley, Slade, Gage, Ramsey, Cam, Willie and Lacey; great-great grandchild, Julian; his sisters, Judy Mullis of Rentz and Jan (David) Brown of Cochran; several nieces and nephews.

The family is at 2189 Chester-Cochran Highway, Chester and will greet friends after the service Saturday at Mathis Funeral Home.
