Cochran – Clara Woodward Simpson, age 102, passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 20, 2024, surrounded by her children, in Wellstar Hospice Care in Marietta. Clara was the daughter of the late Dolly and Melton Woodward. She was raised in Duncan, Oklahoma where she met the love of her life, Chat Simpson, while he was stationed for training before serving in World War II. After the war they were married and moved to Cochran. He was taken from her in 1963 in an automobile accident. Don't you know that when she reached those Pearly Gates, he was waiting for her and said, "What has taken you so long? She was preceded in death by her daughter, Linda Daniels and her four siblings. Clara worked at Warner Robins Air Force Base until she retired. Soon she found herself needing something to do so began another career at B. C. Moore's until she retired again at the age of 87. She enjoyed her church, her Sunday School class and Singing Seniors. She was devoted to her children being the very best Mama ever. She loved holidays especially Christmas, many years decorating at least three trees.
She is survived by her daughter, Elaine (David) Hardin of Albany, Georgia, her son, Sonny Simpson of Dallas, Georgia, five grandchildren, Greg (Jacqueline) Daniels of Thomson, Georgia, Heather (Michael) Brown of Thomson, Georgia, Barrett Simpson of Atlanta, Georgia, Shannon (Troy) Overby of Woodstock, Georgia, thirteen Great Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. And two very special friends, Carolyn Kitchens and Ruth Lawson, who are just like family.
We would like to acknowledge with deep gratitude the loving care she received the last three months while she lived at At Home Senior Living.
The family will visit with friends on Saturday, November 23, 2024 from 1:00 P.M. until time for the service at First Baptist Church of Cochran.
