Obituary

St. Simons – Dr. Cregory Cranford, age 58, died Monday, October 11, 2021, in the Southeast Georgia Health System Brunswick Campus. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 14, 2021, at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Mathis Funeral Home. Burial will be private in Hart Cemetery in Bleckley County.

Dr. Cranford, born in Panama City, FL, was raised in Cochran and lived in Dublin and Augusta before moving to St. Simons. He was the son of the late Freeman D. Cranford. He was a 1981 Third Honor Graduate of Bleckley County High School, a graduate of Middle Georgia College and received his doctorate degree from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine in 1988. He was employed at Seaside Veterinary Hospital in St. Simons and was dedicated to his work, his clients and treated every animal as his own. He loved working with large animals and surgery. Dr. Cranford took pride as a former member of the Cochran Art Alliance and had participated in many activities, performances and restorations at the Cochran City Auditorium. He was a member of the Southside Baptist Church in Cochran.

Survivors are his wife, Dawn Cranford of St. Simons; his daughters, Ansley (Lonnie) Giddens and Caley (Tyler) Allen all of Plainfield; step-children, Matthew Henthorn of Sumter, SC, Lorin Sette of Augusta and Amanda (Tim) Lawrence of Ft. Bragg, NC; his mother, Betty B. Cranford of Cochran; his brother, Shelly (Michele) Cranford of Cochran; fourteen grandchildren; one great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

The family is at 206 GA Highway 257, Cochran and will greet friends after the service Thursday at Mathis Funeral Home.
