Obituary

Darlene Mullis, age 69, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at her residence in Hawkinsville. A memorial service to honor her life will be held on Sunday, May 24, 2026, in the Chapel of Mathis Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 2:00 P.M., followed by the service at 3:00 P.M.

Born on December 10, 1956, in Hawkinsville, Darlene spent most of her life in Cochran. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Doyle Mullis; her parents, Stewart and Thelma Brewer Mullis; her brother, S.E. "Rabbit" Mullis; and her niece, Christie Martin. She is survived by her brother Edward Mullis (Patty); her sister Gwin Sasser (Rick); her nieces and nephews Jami Simpson (Matt), Roland Mullis, Erica Mullis-Smith (Shawn), and Brittney Mullis (Jonathan); her sister-in-love Teresa Mullis; numerous great-nieces and nephews; her cherished fur-baby DM; and many friends who were like family to her.

On September 4, 1993, Darlene married the love of her life, Doyle Mullis. Together they shared a deep bond and enjoyed running a business for many years. Darlene worked for 18 years at Lithonia Lighting before pursuing a career as a painter. Her creativity extended beyond work—she loved crocheting and painting and found joy in activities like dancing, bingo, horse races with Doyle, and spending time outdoors.

Darlene had a vibrant personality that left an impression on everyone she met. She was fun-loving and spirited but fiercely loyal to those she cared about. Her love for animals was evident throughout her life as she cared for many fur babies over the years. She also had a fondness for Tweety Bird and enjoyed simple pleasures like Huddle House breakfasts paired with Dr. Pepper or sweet tea.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the hospice caregivers who provided exceptional care and support during this time.

Darlene's memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. May she rest in peace.
