David Farmer, age 90, passed away on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at his daughter’s residence in Hawkinsville. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 12, 2026, at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church. The family will greet friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Born on January 22, 1936, David was the son of the late John and Annie Lorina Flanders Farmer. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Churchwell Farmer; his second wife, Linda Sikes Farmer; his son, Mark Farmer; and his son-in-law, Everett Collins.
David spent his early years in Chester. He left school to help with sharecrop farming, taking on hard work at a young age. At 17, he joined the United States Marine Corps. During that time, he taught himself to read by using newspaper articles, and he later earned his GED. His determination and discipline remained evident throughout his life.
He went on to work in Civil Service as a supervisor at Robins Air Force Base until his retirement. After retiring, he operated his own lawncare business. Across the years, David built a life marked by steady work, self-reliance, and a willingness to keep moving forward.
He had many interests that brought him lasting enjoyment. He loved hunting, fishing, and camping, especially at Unicoi State Park. He enjoyed shooting marbles and was a member of The Grit Marble Player Club in Cochran. He also loved going dancing at Oak Grove Community Center and at other dance halls throughout Middle Georgia. In the kitchen, he was an excellent cook and was known for his Farmer’s BBQ.
David was an active member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church and loved his church family dearly. He was also a member of the Chester Lions Club. Along with his church community and many activities, he loved his family.
He is remembered by his children, Charlotte Collins of Bolingbroke, Patsy (Casey) Williams of Hawkinsville, and Shawn (Tonja) Farmer of Chester; his grandchildren, Jessica (Lamar) NeSmith, Brooke (Ashley) Long, Kelsey Proctor, and Tett Proctor; 18 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
David Farmer’s life reflected hard work, persistence, devotion to family, and deep ties to his church and community. He will be remembered by those who knew him for the life he built and the many places where he left his mark.
