Obituary

Cochran - Dennis Marion Ellis, 76, went to meet his Lord and Savior on Friday, October 24, 2025, after a joyous life. A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at 6:00 P.M. in the chapel of Mathis Funeral Home. The family will greet friends after the service.

Dennis was born and raised in Macon, GA, where he graduated from Willingham High School and played baseball, football, and wrestled for the Rams.

Dennis received an associate's degree from Middle Georgia College and played baseball as catcher for the MGC Warriors before transferring to Georgia Southern University. While at GSU, he was drafted into the Army and served in Vietnam, where he earned a Purple Heart for injuries sustained in the line of duty. When he returned stateside, Dennis worked as a surveyor for JM Huber before proudly working as a postal carrier for the U.S. Postal Service until his retirement.

An avid golfer, Dennis was a longtime member of Uchee Trail Country Club in Cochran. You could often find him there with friends trying to beat his previous scores.

However, Dennis' greatest joy in life was his family. He was their biggest fan at every baseball game, school play, and awards ceremony for his children and grandchildren. They knew without a doubt when they looked to the outfield or stands that he'd be there.

Dennis was preceded in death by his two brothers, Gary and David, as well as his mother and father, Emory and Josephine.

Dennis is survived by his three children, Christopher (Renee) Ellis of McRae, Christy (Darin) Barton of Cochran, and Trey (Caitlin) Ellis of Midway, his sister Phyllis (Steve) Stone of Macon, and seven grandchildren: Connor Ellis, Chase (Sarah) Barton, Ryleigh Kate Barton, Carson Ellis, Spenser Ellis, Rhett Ellis, and Rory Ellis, who will carry his easy-going spirit always.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Telfair County High School Lady Trojans Softball Team, of which Dennis was a diehard fan, cheering the girls on passionately from his usual spot behind the right-centerfield fence for over 15 years.

The family can be greeted at 102 Hillside Drive in Cochran.
