Dod Clifford Hammond, age 89, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 20, 2025, at his residence in Hawkinsville, Georgia. A private memorial service will be held in his honor.

Born in San Francisco, California, Dod was the son of the late Clifford Valintine Hammond and Marie Henrietta O'Neal Hammond. His early years were marked by travel across the western United States, living in California Nevada and Texas before his family eventually settled in Florida. These formative experiences shaped a life of adaptability and resilience that would carry him through many chapters.

Following high school, Dod proudly served his country in the United States Army. After completing his military service, he pursued higher education at The University of Miami. There, he studied electrical engineering and showcased his athleticism as a forward on the university's basketball team.

Dod's professional journey was as diverse as it was fulfilling. He began his career as a schoolteacher; he also worked for Florida Power & Lights and later he worked in land management. However, it was in horse training that he found his true passion. For many years, Dod traveled throughout the eastern United States training horses—a vocation that brought him great joy and purpose until his retirement in Hawkinsville.

He was a devoted member of County Line Baptist Church, where he found fellowship and community among friends who became like family.

Dod was preceded in death by his first wife, Jayne Ellen Hammond, and his second wife, Elizabeth Oliver Hammond.

He is survived by his sons, Bo Hammond (Tonya) of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Randy Hammond (Loriane) of Orlando, Florida; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren including a special granddaughter, Zoe; and his cherished friend and caretaker Mrs. Cornelia Williams of Hawkinsville. He will also be fondly remembered by his pew buddies from County Line Baptist Church.
