Chester – Dorothy Allen Roland, age 88, died Sunday, August 5, 2018, in the Summerhill Nursing Home in Perry. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 8, 2018, at 2:00 P.M. at Chester Baptist Church. Burial will be in Pulaski-Bleckley Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Roland, born in Irwin County, had lived most of her life in Chester. She was the daughter of the late Homer Franklin and Mary Lee Grantham Allen and the wife of the late James E. Roland. She was retired from L&H Shirt Factory and former Mayor of Chester. She was the oldest member of Chester Baptist Church.

Survivors are her children, "J. C." Carroll (LeAnn) Roland of Decatur and Debra (Earl) Bass of Cochran; grandchildren, Robert Rowland of Decatur, Blake (Julie) Rowland of Eastman, Cassidy (Josh) Turner of Decatur, Kristen (Charlie) Sims and Christopher Bass of Cochran; six great grandchildren; her sisters, Faye (Gene) Cannon , Carolyn Long and Betty (Roger) Gurr of Cochran; her brothers, Charles (Emily) Allen of Dexter, William (Gail) Allen of Byron, Billy Ray (Rita) Allen of Lilburn and Tony (Rhonda) Allen of Danville; several nieces and nephews.

The family is at 156 Alvin Purser Road, Cochran and will greet friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Tuesday at Mathis Funeral Home.
