Cochran – Our hearts are heavy as we share the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother. Edith Laverne Young who left this world Saturday, August 9, 2025, surrounded by those she loved dearly. She was the heart and soul of our family and our constant source of comfort and unconditional love.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Mathis Funeral Home. The family will greet friends from 10:00 A.M. until time for the service Tuesday at Mathis Funeral Home. Burial will be in Pulaski-Bleckley Memorial Gardens.

Laverne was born in Moultrie and had lived most of her life in Cochran. She was the daughter of the late R.W. and Inez Knox Stanford, preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Young, her son Quince Patterson, her sister, Linda Ipock and her brother, Stanley Stanford, who she missed all so much. She was retired after 38 years from Lithonia Lighting.

Laverne's greatest joy was her family, her Lithonia family and her cat Robert. She poured herself into spending time with her family, taking care of Robert the cat and raising her daylily's. Every holiday, birthday, and meal were made brighter by her presence, her laughter and the way she made each of us feel special.

Survivors are her daughter, Denise Myers; her grandchildren, Amanda (T.J.) Nguyen, Latrelle Claxton Yawn (Victor) and Becky Mashburn; her great grandchildren, Carleigh Claxton, Kaylee Nguyen, Karson Nguyen, Tucker Mashburn, Taylor Mashburn and Teagan Mashburn; two great-great grandchildren, many dear loved nieces and nephews; her beloved sitters and caregivers, Essie Warner, Tomika (Bay Bay) Jenkins and Angela Pitts.

The family is at 854 Frank Cook Road, Cochran.
