Cochran – Edward E. "Gene" Towns, age 82, died Sunday, September 22, 2019, in Coliseum Medical Center in Macon. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 26, 2019, at 11:00 A.M. in the Empire Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Gene, born in Telfair County, had lived most of his life in Cochran. He was the son of the late Carvey Edward and Katherine Pope Towns. Gene was owner and operator of Towns Insurance Agency, a US Army Veteran and a 1954 graduate of Dodge High. He was former Mayor of Cochran and a former City Council member. He loved to play golf and was an avid hunter, making many annual hunting trips to Montana. Gene was a member of Empire Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Survivors are his wife of 60 years, Annie Laura Towns of Cochran; several nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces.

The family is at 112 McVay Drive, Cochran and will greet friends Wednesday from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Mathis Funeral Home.
