Cochran – Frances Adele Phillips Porter, age 88, died in Bryant Nursing Home on Tuesday, November 26, 2019. Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 1, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. in the First Baptist Church of Cochran. Burial will be private in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Porter was a native of Twiggs County, but had lived in Bleckley County for most of her life. She was the daughter of the late Julian T. Phillips and Fannie Brown Phillips Sanders. Frances was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years, Frank C. Porter, as well as brothers Marvin Phillips and Willie D. Phillips. Frances was a graduate of Cochran High School, where she was the class salutatorian. She worked for many years at Holcomb's Grocery/Dress Shop and later at McVay/Porter's Pharmacy, where she truly enjoyed dealing with people. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Cochran and over the many decades of her membership served in various roles such as Sunday School, Training Union, and Vacation Bible School teacher. She was also a leader in the Girl's Auxiliary of the Women's Missionary Union, in which she established lasting Christian bonds with the young ladies.

Survivors are her son, Charlie (Robin) Porter of Cochran; grandchildren, Kristin (Cam) Udick of Lawrenceville and Jacob Porter of Cochran; great-granddaughter, Tamsyn Udick; sister, Sue (Don) Davis of San Antonio, TX; brothers, Sidney (Mary) Phillips of Leesburg, GA and Clyde (Peggy) Phillips of Lizella, GA.

The family will be at 277 Frank Cook Road beginning on Saturday and will greet friends after the service Sunday at Cochran First Baptist Church.
