Obituary

Cochran – Gary Smith, age 68, died Saturday, September 12, 2020, at his residence after a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 15, 2020, at 10:00 A.M. in the chapel of Mathis Funeral Home. Burial will be in Limestone Memorial Gardens.

Gary, born in Dodge County, had lived most of his life in Cochran. He was the son of the late Monroe Eugene and Mary Yearty Smith and was preceded in death by his brother, Mahlon Smith and his brother-in-law, Wyndell Skipper. Gary was retired from Blue Bird Bus Company and the Bleckley County Law Enforcement Center. He was a former member of the Civil Defense, former volunteer fireman and first responder. Gary loved to fish, deer hunt and was a talented mechanic.

Survivors are his wife, Gail Skipper Smith of Cochran; his daughters, Kerri Rogers and Kiley Smith of Cochran; his grandchildren, Alan (Brandy) Rogers, Aaron (Logan) Rogers and Alexis Rogers of Cochran; his great grandson "on the way", Grayson Cole Rogers; his sister, Jean (Ray) Floyd of Cochran; sisters-in-law, Bonnie Smith, Mavis Skipper and Jane Skipper of Cochran, and Myrtice Bass of Macon; several nieces and nephews.

The family is at 392 GA Highway 257, Cochran and will greet friends Monday from 7:00 until 9:00 P.M. at Mathis Funeral Home.
