George Ronnie Butler, age 81, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2026, at his residence in Cochran, surrounded by his family. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2026, in the chapel of Mathis Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m., followed by the service at 2:00 p.m.

Born on January 14, 1945, in Macon, Georgia, Ronnie was the son of the late George Melvin Butler and Lois Belva Butler. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Charley Elvis Butler. Ronnie spent his formative years in Macon before embarking on a life dedicated to service and community.

After graduating high school, Ronnie enlisted in the United States Navy, serving six years, 2 of which were aboard the destroyer USS Turner. Following his military service, he pursued higher education at Georgia State University and earned a bachelor's degree in criminal justice. His career reflected his commitment to public service as he worked with the Georgia State Patrol and later with the Department of Juvenile Justice.

Ronnie was an avid outdoorsman and a passionate hunter. He was a founding charter member of both the Bleckley County Sportsman Club and the Van Hill Hunting Club. Beyond his love for nature and hunting, Ronnie enjoyed traveling extensively with his wife Debbie; together they explored numerous destinations around the world. Known for his friendly demeanor and love of conversation, Ronnie never met a stranger and cherished connecting with people wherever he went.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Debbie Coats Butler of Cochran; his son Corey Butler (Kristy) of Boston, Georgia; his grandchildren Brooks Butler of Pensacola, Florida, and Sage Butler of Boston, Georgia; his “adopted grandchildren” Cade and Chase Jones of Cochran; his sisters Joyce Drew and Millie Shealy of Macon; and his nephew Kyle Butler (Ronda) of Macon; sister-in-law, Mary Butler of Macon and great nephew, Brannon Butler of Macon.

Ronnie’s memory will live on through those who knew him and loved him dearly. May his legacy bring comfort to all who were touched by his life.
