Obituary

Cochran – Grace Rowland Maddox, age 89, passed away Wednesday, July 8, 2026 in Bryant Nursing Center. The family will greet friends, Thursday, July 9, 2026, from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Mathis Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 10, 2026 at 10:00 A.M. in the chapel of Mathis Funeral Home. Burial will be private in Pulaski-Bleckley Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Grace, born in Chester, had lived most of her life in Cochran. She was the daughter of the late Perry Rowland and Irene Minter Rowland Oxley and stepfather, Theo Oxley. She was preceded in death by her husband, J W Maddox, her sisters, Opal Rowland, Faye "Peggy" Rowland, JoAnn Lucas and stepsister, Josephine Oxley Rowland. Mrs. Grace, along with her husband J W, were owners and operators of Maddox Glass Co. and she had worked at Lakeview True Value Hardware and Radio Shack. Mrs. Grace was a member of Chester Baptist Church.

Survivors are her children, Ricky (Mary) Maddox and Terry Maddox  of Cochran, Donna (Lynn) Hardy of Eastman and Sondra (Lee) Leatherwood of Cochran; grandchildren; Ashley (Michael) Knowles, Carmen (Craig) Pearce, Dana (Chris) Brown, Tyler R. Maddox, Jonathan W. (Nicole) Leatherwood, and MaKenzie G. Leatherwood; great-grandchildren, Ryan, Ansley, Emma, Harper, Briley, Kaitlynn and Dylan; her sisters, Joyce (Bobby) Cannon, Betty Rogers and Carolyn Rozar all of Chester; sisters-in-law, Betty McElheney and Carolyn Long; brothers-in-law, Joe (Rita) Maddox and George Kight, Sr.; several nieces and nephews.

The family is at 143 Tenth St., Cochran
