Cochran – Halyna "Alusiya" Lazarenko, age 90, passed away Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at her residence. Graveside funeral services will be held Saturday, November 1, 2025, at 12:00 P.M. in Cedar Hill Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 11:00 A.M. until 11:45 A.M. at Mathis Funeral Home.

Mrs. Lazarenko, born in Ukraine, moved to Cochran in 2019. She was the daughter of the late Matvey and Vasylissa Kononenko Glushenko and the wife of the late Vasyl Lazarenko. She was a language and literature high school teacher and loved to read and solve crossword puzzles. Mrs. Lazarenko was held in one of the first German concentration camps in Dachau, Germany and was liberated in 1945 by American Forces, for which she was so thankful and appreciative to the American Forces for her rescue and release.

Survivors are her daughter, Viktoriya Lanier of Cochran; her granddaughter, Sandra (Chris) Barnett of Warner Robins.
