It is with profound sadness that the family of James Gregory “Greg” Jarrell announces his passing on August 27, 2026, at Fairview Park Hospital.

Greg was born on April 15, 1963, in Americus, Georgia, to Maryann Jarrell and the late James Ray Jarrell. He grew up in Cochran and graduated from Bleckley County High School in 1981, where he excelled in football. Those early years in Cochran helped shape a life that remained closely tied to the community he called home.

Greg was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. He was also a devoted sports fan, especially when it came to his beloved Georgia Bulldogs. Over the years, he gave his time and support to local athletics and high school sports, and he held a deep respect and appreciation for the nation’s veterans. His connection to his community was a lasting part of his life, reflected in both his interests and his willingness to support others.

Professionally, Greg worked for MetroPower for many years. His determination and commitment to hard work later led him to establish Jarrell Industrial Contractors, known as JIC, in Cochran, Georgia. He took great pride in building the business and in the legacy created through years of dedication and effort.

Of all the roles Greg held in life, family remained at the center of his heart. He shared 42 years of marriage with his wife, Donna Jarrell, and together they built a family that was one of his greatest sources of pride. He is survived by his mother, Maryann Jarrell of Cochran; his wife, Donna Jarrell; and his children, Colby (Natasha) Jarrell, Kace (Halie) Jarrell, and Leah (Shaun) Hill, all of Cochran.

He is also survived by his grandchildren, Hartlee, Lakynn (“Sissy”), and Presley Jarrell; Hannah, Jace, Jaiden, Josie, Eli, Maggie Lee, Sadie, and Jonah “lil’ Greg” Jarrell; and Tyler (Jasmine), Buck (Emilee), Kooper, and Kale Hill, all of Cochran; and his great-grandchildren Kaleb, Kameron, and Easton Hill.

To his grandchildren, Greg was simply “G-Pa,” a title that brought him immense joy. Being G-Pa was one of the greatest pleasures of his life, and he took deep pride in the time he spent with them and in being a steady presence in their lives. The love he shared with his family stands as a central part of the legacy he leaves behind.

Greg is also survived by his siblings, Carissa Gibbs of Macon, Georgia; Dee (Frankie) Harrell of Eastman, Georgia; Eric (Stacy) Jarrell of Cochran; and Andrea (Jason) Floyd of Cochran. Additional family members include his sister-in-law, Charlotte Fagan of Marshallville, Georgia; Aunt Martha (Ken) Mills of Peachtree City, Georgia; and Uncle Rick Cone of Cochran, Georgia. Numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Ray Jarrell, and his grandson, JJ.

Greg will be remembered for his strength, his work ethic, his generosity, his love of the outdoors and sports, and above all, his devotion to his family. He also leaves behind the enduring mark of a life rooted in Cochran, in the business he built, in the community activities he supported, and in the many moments shared with those closest to him.

Visitation will be held Saturday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at 177 Red Hawk Road. A graveside service will be held Sunday, August 30, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at Jarrell Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Colby Jarrell, Kace Jarrell, Buck Hill, Kooper Hill, Rick Cone, and Jacoby Mullis.
