Dexter – James S. "Jimmy" Barrs, III, age 79, died Thursday, August 4, 2022, in Fairview Park Hospital in Dublin. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 9, 2022, at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Mathis Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Barrs Family Cemetery in Laurens County.

Jimmy, born in Bleckley County, had lived in Perry and Dodge County before moving to Dexter. He was the son of the late James Steven Barrs, Jr. and Florence Pipkin Barrs Lee and was preceded in death by his sisters, Jeanette McCluggage and Alma Williams and stepson, Danny Mullis. Jimmy was retired from Robins Air Force, served in the Georgia National Guard and was a graduate of Perry High School. He was Baptist.

Survivors are his children, Gary (Lori) Barrs of Dexter and Sherry Barrs Hamrick of Eastman; grandchildren, Ty Hamrick, Nicole Roqueplot and Dusty (Briley) Hinson, Shawn (Jennifer) Mullis and Shannon (Pam) Mullis; great grandchildren, Dominque Roqueplot, Abigale Roqueplot, Andrea Hamrick, Reagan Hamrick, Grayson Hinson and Evellynn Hinson; his sisters, Peggy (Keith) McCard of Moravian Falls, NC, Grace Waszczak of Ft. Myers, FL and Dodi Colburn of Lineville, AL; his brother, Carl Barrs; several nieces and nephews.

The family will greet friends from 1:00 P.M. until time for the service Tuesday at Mathis Funeral Home.
