James William "J.W." Purvis, age 81, of Roddy, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at his residence. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 18, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Mathis Funeral Home. Burial will be in Roddy Community Cemetery.

Born in Darien, Georgia, J.W. spent most of his life in Roddy. He was the son of the late O.W. "Bud" and Bessie Mae Yeomans Purvis. J.W. was preceded in death by his daughter, Leeann Purvis Murphy, and his sister, Bessie Purvis Coley.

A proud graduate of Dodge County High School in the Class of 1961, J.W. dedicated 58 years of service to Blue Bird Bus Company before retiring. He was a member of Empire Pentecostal Holiness Church.

He is survived by his wife, Jan Purvis of Roddy; his children: Greg Purvis of Eastman, Jeff (Kathy) Purvis of Eastman, and Jon (Rebecca) Chester of Lancaster, Pennsylvania; his grandchildren: Renee (James) Joines of Lawrenceville, Joah (Brit) Purvis of Eastman, Macy (Daryl) Wambolt of Canada, Bailey Thomas of Rentz, Jase (Jamie) Chester of Eastman, Tasha McDaniel of Eastman, and Cody Purvis of Warner Robins; his 14 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, R.S. (Angie) Purvis of Alabaster, Alabama; his sister, Linda (Bobby) Warren of Eastman; sister-in-law, Wanda (Merle) Seabald of Eatonton as well as several nieces and nephews.

The family is at 1111 Kirkpatrick Road, Roddy Community, Cochran and will greet friends Friday after the committal service at Roddy Community Cemetery.
