James William Sanders, age 90, passed away on Monday, April 21, 2025, at Bryant Rehabilitation Center in Cochran, surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Mathis Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Born in Twiggs County, Mr. James spent the majority of his life in Bleckley County. He was the son of the late James Francis and Drue Parham Sanders. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years, Shelby Jean Davis Sanders; and his siblings, Cleta Holmes, Gene Sanders, Marvin Sanders, Edith Ray and Charles "Wayne" Sanders, Sr.

Mr. James dedicated 43 years of service to Inland Container Corporation before retiring. He was US Army Veteran and a devoted member of Southside Baptist Church where he served faithfully as a deacon and church treasurer. His faith and commitment to his church community remained strong throughout his life.

He found great joy in simple pleasures—watching NASCAR and Braves baseball games, fishing and spending time with his family. He especially cherished annual Fourth of July beach trips and caring for his grandchildren.

He is survived by his daughters, Brenda (Kenny) Rodgers of Perry and Donna (Lacy) Royal of Cochran; grandchildren, Ken (Kristen) Rodgers, Blake (Krystle) Rodgers, Karlee (Austin) Bailey, Michelle (Kyle) Hardeman, Nikki (Spencer) Jones, Katie (Raynor) Churchwell and Tommy (Kaley) Royal; 11 great-grandchildren; siblings Luke Sanders, Billie Ray Sanders, and Sylvia Wesberry; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

The family is at 142 Coley Station Rd, Cochran and will greet friends after the service on Thursday at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mr. James leaves behind a legacy of faith, dedication, and love for family. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
