Cochran – James D. "Sonny" Hinson, Jr., age 82, died Tuesday, September 15, 2020, in Fairview Park Hospital in Dublin. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 18, 2020 at 4:00 P.M. in the chapel of Mathis Funeral Home. Burial will be private in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Sonny, born in McRae, had lived in Cochran, moved to Savannah and then moved back to Cochran in 2008. He was the son of the late James Daniel "J.D.", Sr. and Geneva Cadwell Hinson and was preceded in death by his step-son, David O'Neal. Mr. Sonny was a US Navy Veteran of the 123 ^rd Platoon. He was retired from Frito-Lay and a former employee of Sunbeam Bread Company. Mr. Sonny worked for his parents at Cochran Seafood Market, was a former employee at Robins Air Force Base and a former deputy for the Bleckley County Sheriff's Departments. He and Mrs. Jewell enjoyed spending time at the Oak Grove Jamboree. Mr. Sonny was a member of Cochran First Church of the Nazarene.

Survivors are his wife, Jewell O'Neal Hinson of Cochran; his children, Tina (Rick) Haupt and Tim (Beth) Hinson of Cochran; his step-children, Lynn (Gary) Floyd of Chester, Robin (Keith) Floyd and Deniece (Kelly) Peacock of Cochran, Freida (Charlie) Hankins of Warner Robins and Carol O'Neal of Fayetteville; twelve grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

The family is at 619 GA Highway 26 East, Cochran and will greet friends after the service Friday at Mathis Funeral Home.
