Cochran - JD Wright, age 82, passed away on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at Fairview Park Hospital in Dublin, surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church Cochran.

Born in Laurens County, Mr. JD was the son of the late Lee Wright and Katie Davis Wright. He was preceded in death by his infant son, James David Wright II; his brother, Melvin Wright; and his sisters, Lois Wright, Florene Anderson, and Bessie Bryant.

Mr. JD attended Salem School and later earned his GED while working on the family farm in Rebie. In his youth, he enjoyed playing softball with the "Rebie Raiders". He served in the United States Army National Guard and went on to work as an electronics technician at Robins Air Force Base for over 40 years, both as a civil servant and a contractor.

A man who cherished time with his family, Mr. JD especially loved watching girls' softball. He could often be found in his shop tinkering with tools or organizing nuts and bolts. In earlier years, he enjoyed golfing with friends and woodworking. He was an active member of the Legacy Builders at First Baptist Church Cochran and participated in mission trips focused on disaster relief cleanup.

He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Shirley Smith Wright; his son Lee (Kim) Wright; his daughter Candi (Lee) Dykes; his grandchildren Christopher Wright, Taylor (Lucas) Faulk, Lauren Dykes, and Holly Wright; and great-grandchildren Walker Faulk and Wade Faulk (expected in July). He is also survived by his siblings Faye Bryant Goff, Doris Killebrew, and Rubye Killebrew; sisters-in-law Claudia Wright and Barbara Smith Bryant; brother-in-law Aubrey (Linda) Smith; and several nieces and nephews.
