Morris
Jul 14, 1950 — Aug 19, 2026
Jerry Morris, age 76, passed away on Wednesday, August 19, 2026 in Piedmont Atlanta Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 24, 2026, in the chapel of Mathis Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Born on July 14, 1950, Jerry lived a life marked by enduring connections with family and friends and by the simple pleasures that brought him happiness over the years. He was known as a friendly and sociable man, someone who would not hesitate to approach a person in public and ask if they were who he thought they might be. More often than not, he was correct. He had a remarkable memory, and that gift became one of the qualities people readily associated with him.
Jerry enjoyed a wide range of interests that reflected both his curiosity and his appreciation for comfort and recreation. He liked playing games on his computer and spending time watching sports and old westerns on television. For Jerry, the bigger the TV, the better. He was also a NASCAR fan, and he took pleasure in following the sport he enjoyed.
In his younger years, Jerry played baseball and softball, sharing that enjoyment with a family connection, as his father, Beecher, also played. Those years remained an important part of his life story and spoke to interests he carried with him through the years.
Jerry also embraced adventure. He learned to scuba dive and went on a dozen or more dive trips with family and friends. That part of his life added another dimension to the many experiences he enjoyed and the memories he made with those around him.
He also loved eating out and had clear favorites. Scott’s hamburgers were especially enjoyed, and he also loved a “home cooking” buffet. These familiar routines and favorite places were part of the everyday joys that helped define his life.
Jerry was a loving husband, father, brother, and uncle. He was also remembered as tender-hearted, kind, patient, and loyal. His deep love for family and friends was an important and constant part of his life.
He was a member of Cochran Masonic Lodge 217 in Cochran, Georgia. He was also a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Cochran, Georgia.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Beecher and Laverne Morris.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Patti Ware Morris of Cochran; his son, Shaine Morris (Lisa) of Rentz, Georgia; his brother, Beecher Wayne Morris (Earline) of Green Cove Springs, Florida; his brother, George Morris (Carolyn) of Spring Valley, Utah; his sister, Glenda Bates Poole (Larry) of Dublin, Georgia; his sisters-in-law, Jean Ware of Cochran and Susan Ware Dooley of Newnan, Georgia; and many beloved nephews and nieces.
Jerry Morris will be remembered for the life he lived, the interests he enjoyed, and the steady place he held among those who knew and loved him.
