Roddy – Jim H. Sawyer, age 92, died Thursday, May 13, 2021, at his residence. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 15, 2021, at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Mathis Funeral Home. Burial will be private in Belflower Family Cemetery.
Mr. Sawyer was born and raised in Roddy and had lived in Callahan, FL and Screven County, GA, before moving back to Roddy 12 years ago. He was the son of the late Beaufort Bryant, Sr. and Lila Beflower Sawyer and was preceded in death by his sons, Michael Ray Sawyer and Jimmy M. Sawyer, his sisters, Opal Giddens, Zell Swan and Estelle Yearty. Mr. Jim was a construction contractor and had worked for Stuckey Candy Company. He was a member of Roddy Baptist Church.
Survivors are his wife, Lois Thompson Sawyer of Roddy; his sons, Mike (Deborah) Sawyer of Callahan, FL and Chris (Joan) Sawyer of Valdosta; eleven grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren; his brothers, Bob Sawyer, W.L. "Strib" Sawyer, Tom (Jean) Sawyer, Glenn Sawyer and Lyndon (Ann) Sawyer all of Cochran; his sisters, Pansy (Joey) Loudermilk of Ellerslie, Florine "Baby" Johnson of Gloverville, SC and Madge (Jack) Dykes of Cochran; several nieces and nephews.
The family will greet friends after the service Saturday at Mathis Funeral Home.
