Obituary

Joe C. Allen, age 80, of Cochran, Georgia, passed away peacefully at his residence on Tuesday, May 27, 2025. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Mathis Funeral Home. Burial will be private at Trail Branch Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

A lifelong resident of Cochran, Joe was the son of the late Jacob C. and Christine Hinson Allen. He was preceded in death by his sisters Helen Allen Churchwell and Bonnie Ann Horne.

He graduated from Cochran High School and went on to attend Middle Georgia College. Joe proudly served his country in the United States Army Corps of Engineers during the Vietnam War.

Following his military service, Joe dedicated over two decades to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, retiring as a game warden corporal after 22 years of service. His commitment to public service extended beyond his professional life into his deep involvement with the Masonic fraternity. A Freemason for 55 years, Joe was a devoted member of Cochran Lodge #217 F & AM, where he served as a two-time past master and held the position of secretary for an impressive 33 years. He also contributed his time and leadership as a board member for the Masonic Home in Macon.

Joe's dedication to community and fellowship continued through his 24-year membership with the Al Sihah Shriners. He was active in both the Cochran/Bleckley Shrine Club and the Al Sihah Provost Guard, reflecting his passion for camaraderie and service.

An avid outdoorsman, Joe found great joy in nature—especially fishing—and spent countless hours walking through the woods collecting arrowheads. These quiet moments in nature were among his favorite pastimes. Above all else, Joe cherished time spent with family and friends. He was a Baptist by faith.

He is survived by his loving wife, Jean Allen of Cochran; children Pam Allen and Chad (Brandi) Allen of Cochran; grandchildren Josh Floyd, Justin Peacock, Kaitlyn (Nolan) Fulghum, Jamie (Alec) Allen, and Caleb Allen; great-grandchildren Hartley, Wyatt, Carter, Jack, and Grayson; stepdaughter Teresa Harris; step-grandchildren Frankie Herring, Heather Herring and Reece Johnson; brother Roger (Kay) Allen of Cochran; as well as several nieces and nephews.

The family is at 661 Limestone Road and will receive friends on Friday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. at Mathis Funeral Home.

Joe C. Allen's legacy of service—to his country, community, and family—will long be remembered by those who knew him. May his memory bring comfort to all who mourn his passing.
