Cochran– John Russell Evans, age 81, died Sunday, August 15, 2021, at Bleckley Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 21, 2021, at 11:00 A.M. in Limestone Baptist Church. Burial will be in Powers Family Cemetery.

Mr. Evans, born in Pulaski County, was the son of the late Charles William and Pauline Sanders Evans. He was preceded in death by his first wife of forty-one years, Hazel Williams Evans, and his older brother, Charles Evans. Mr. Evans was a 1957 graduate of the new Cochran High School and he played football for Coach Shelly Hayes. He was a hardworking man who enjoyed farming and raising livestock for many years. He retired from Inland Container Corporation after 36 years and from the Georgia Department of Corrections after 10 years. Mr. Russell was a longtime member of Limestone Baptist Church where he was a member of the Senior Adult Men's Class.

Survivors are his wife, Lavonia Jones Evans of Cochran; daughters, Cindy Evans (Tim) Felkins of Cochran and Valerie Evans (Bill) Goddard of St. Mary's; grandsons, Cooper Felkins, Tucker Felkins, Rusty Goddard and Jason Goddard; step-children, Sherry (David) Hubbard of Roddy, David (Pam) Southerland of Eastman and Raye (Janice) Southerland of East Dublin; brother, Robert P. (Amelia) Evans of Cochran and many beloved nieces and nephews.

The family is at 990 GA Highway 257 and will greet friends and extended family starting at 10 A.M. before the service, Saturday, at Limestone Baptist Church.
