Cochran – Johnny E. McCarthy, age 88, died Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at his residence. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 22, 2022, at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Mathis Funeral Home. Burial will be private in Pulaski-Bleckley Memorial Gardens.
Mr. McCarthy, born in Dodge County, had lived most of his life in Cochran. He was the son of the late Jerden and Mamie Floyd McCarthy, was preceded in death by his brother and sisters, Clyde McCarthy, Juanita Harris and Annie Lou McCarthy. He was retired from Robins Air Force Base and served 27 years in the Georgia National Guard. Mr. Johnny was a member and deacon of Dubois Baptist Church and was song leader for many years.
Survivors are his wife of 65 years, Betty Jo McCarthy of Cochran; his son, John Paul (Gisele) McCarthy of Hawkinsville; his grandson, Zach (Marsha) McCarthy of Statesboro; great grandson, Beau McCarthy of Statesboro; step grandchildren, Billy (Andrea) Melton of Marshallville, Andy (Sheri) Alexander of Oklahoma City, OK and Cory (Brittany) Alexander of Cumming; step great granddaughter, Leila Alexander of Oklahoma City, OK; his sister, Mildred Smith of Cochran; several nieces and nephews.
The family will greet friends after the service Saturday at Mathis Funeral Home.
