Obituary

Joseph Earl Hobbs, born November 25, 1935, in Bleckley County, peacefully departed this life on April 14, 2024, at the Carl Vinson Medical Center's Heroes Haven in Dublin, following an extended illness.  Many knew him as Joe, J.E., or even Bo, but we knew him best as a loving "daddy", "granddaddy", and friend.

Joe joined the Air Force in 1953, serving as a boom operator and contributing his skills in the mess hall and barracks as a Service Specialist. After his honorable service, he pursued further education, specializing in appliance technology.

Joe found joy in simple pleasures, such as fishing, appreciating nature's quiet peace, and exchanging friendly greetings and a warm smile with friends acting as the unofficial local Walmart greeter. Known for his compassionate nature, kindness, and unwavering commitment to serving others, Joe embodied the values of resilience and love.  He was always up for sharing the latest joke he heard or playing a prank on the unsuspecting.

He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Edna and Gordon Hobbs and his three siblings Betty Hobbs Peacock, Jackie Hobbs, and Margaret Hobbs Self. Joe is survived by his three children, Brandy Hobbs of Cochran, Angie Hobbs Rustin (Ben) of St. Simons, and Todd Dupree (Shanna) of Cochran, as well as his four grandchildren Tyler Raley (Kelsey), Ashlynd Jolley, Cody Jolley (Eve), and Caden Dupree.  He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Scarlett Taylor Hobbs, and nephews and nieces, Greg Self (Frances), Jason Hobbs, Robyn Hobbs Kemp (Sam), and Karran Cooler.

He leaves behind a legacy of warmth and devotion to his family, demonstrating strength and grace in facing life's challenges. The wisdom he shared will be forever cherished.  Joe will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

In honoring Joe's request, there will not be a funeral service, but family will be available to receive visitors Monday, April 15th, 2024, from 3-7pm at the home of Todd and Shanna Dupree, 135 Carol Drive, Cochran, GA 31014.  A private Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later time.

In his memory, the family will kindly accept flowers or in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fisher House:  connect.fisherhouse.org.
