Lee Jackson Jessup was born May 20th, 1947, at home in Chester GA to the late Blanton A. Jessup and Azilee Johnson Jessup.  Lee attended elementary school in Chester, GA and graduated from Dodge County High School, Class of 1965.  Lee was a veteran that served in the United States Air Force from 1965-1970.

Lee was telephone lineman for Bellsouth for almost 30 years, retiring in 2005.

He was very passionate about music and was a singer, songwriter, and leader of the Lee Jessup Band for many years.  He was very supportive of the Chester Lions Club, playing the annual Battle of Guitars each year. He was also a long-time emcee and performer at the Possum Hollow Arts and Crafts Fair in Dexter Georgia for many years as well.  One of the highlights of his musical career was the opportunity to perform on the South Lawn of the White House on August 7th, 1980, during the Carter administration.  Lee wrote and performed songs that touched the lives of many people over the years.  He was a great admirer of Waylon Jennings and the outlaw country movement.

Lee was devoted to his family and always made sure they came first.  He is survived by his wife of almost 54 years, Evelyn Rogers Jessup of Chester, GA. Children, Joanna Hall (John Bagwell), Jed (April) Jessup, and Benji Jessup.   Grandchildren, Brooks Jessup, Blanton Jessup, Jolee Hall, Julia Jessup, and Audrey Jessup.  Brother, Gary Mayo (Donna).  Brother-in-law Stuart (Doreen) Rogers, Sister-in-law Marilyn Rogers.  Many cousins, nieces, and nephews.  He was loved by many and will be dearly missed.

Services will be held on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at 11:00 am in Union Hill Baptist Church in Cochran, GA. The family will greet friends one hour before the service at the church. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery immediately following the service.
