Cochran - Lula Carolyn Powell Haynsworth, age 90, passed away Saturday, September 26, 2026 at At Home Senior Living in Cochran, Georgia. Funeral services in Georgia will be held Wednesday, September 30, 2026 at 4:00 P.M. in the chapel of Mathis Funeral Home in Cochran on Wednesday with visitation following the service. Graveside services will be held Saturday, October 3, 2026 at 10:00 A.M., in Plant City, Florida, at Hopewell Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 6005 South County Road, Plant City, FL. 33567.

Carolyn was the daughter of the late Thomas Jackson Powell, Sr. and Lula C. Crumpler Powell. She was born April 15, 1936, and was a lifelong resident of Plant City, Florida. Carolyn was a homemaker, secretary and bookkeeper. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Plant City for 80 years where she was a member of the Chancel Choir, a Communion Steward, Chairman of the worship committee. Chairman of the council on ministry. She was also a member of the Staff Parish Relations Committee, Finance Committee, Board of Trustees, and a song leader and teacher for Sunday School classes for many years. Carolyn was an accomplished musician. Not only did she play piano, organ and vibraphone, she was a published composer of many spiritual hymns. She enjoyed a wide range of activities including tennis, fishing, sewing, horseback riding and gardening. A favorite pastime was playing bridge with longtime Plant City friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, John Thea Haynsworth, Jr., her sister, June Delores Tysl and her brothers, Jack Powell, Jr. and Charles Powell.

She is survived by stepdaughters, Jackie Haynsworth Wilson of Cochran, Georgia and Janice Haynsworth Roberts of Dublin, Georgia; nieces June Powell NeSmith (Barry) of Cochran, Julianne Ludwig (Joey) of Anderson, South Carolina, Lori Salisbury (Mason) of Anderson, S.C., Claire Powell Ward of Brookhaven, Georgia and Angele Powell Baba of Atlanta. Also surviving are step-grandchildren Gretchen Wilson-Tuck (Jeff) of Cochran, Todd Haynsworth Wilson of Roddy, Georgia, Pam Roberts Lockerman (Keith) of Winterville, Georgia, Webb Roberts of Atlanta and great step-grandchildren, Britton Tuck Clark (Andrew) of Atlanta, Bailey Tuck Wilson (Jared) of Milledgeville, Regan Pond (Dan) of Colorado Springs, Jada Wilson (Ethan) of Garner, N.C. and Ezra Roberts of Atlanta; Great nieces, Rebekah NeSmith Bowen (Brett) of Cochran and Jennifer Lake (Travis) of Newberry, S.C, Emily Park (Alex) of Anderson, S.C. and Great nephew Daniel NeSmith (Erin) of Cochran.
