Obituary

Cochran - Martha Jane Sanders, age 69, passed away Friday, June 14, 2024, at Fairview Park Hospital in Dublin surrounded by her loved ones. A memorial service will be held in the chapel of Mathis Funeral Home on Sunday, June 30, 2024, at 2:00 P.M. The family will receive friends after the service at Mathis Funeral Home.

Martha was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She will be greatly missed!

Born in Tennessee, Martha moved to Georgia in her teens where she graduated from Cochran High (Class of 1973). Following high school, she married Joe Sanders, her husband of 50 years. She had three children and enjoyed being a housewife for a number of years. When her last child entered kindergarten, she decided to become a substitute teacher then a paraprofessional where she found a passion for education. Martha worked for Bleckley Schools for 22 years and enjoyed every minute of it. Martha was a caregiver at heart, having cared for her in-laws in their elder years, and various nieces and nephews in addition to her family. She loved her family and friends greatly. Even while ill herself, she would call to check on family and friends frequently. Martha was so faithful in checking on some members of her husband's family that they thought she was the one they were related to.  She also enjoyed gardening and flowers.

Martha is predeceased by her son, Joey Sanders; her mother, Joyce Patton; her father, Neal Patton II; and her beloved grandfather, Grendel Brandon.

Martha is survived by her husband, Joe Sanders; her daughter, Angel Sanders (John); her son, Brandon Sanders (Megan), her grandchildren: Breanna, Kelsey, Preston, Kayleigh, Cayden, Rayden, Owen and step-grandchildren Tanner and Joycelynn; sister, Lisa Yawn; brother, Neal Patton (Cindy), sister, Pam Dickey (Reo); aunt, Kelsie Spillers (Whitey) and many nieces and nephews. We would to like to say a special thank you to Audrea Jones, her caregiver, for excellent care and friendship.
