Bleckley County – Martha June White, age 89, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at her residence, surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 9, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. at Salem Baptist Church in Cochran. Burial will be in Salem Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. June was born on June 13, 1934, in Laurens County. She was the daughter of the late Thomas and Ruth Howard Hobbs and was preceded in death by her daughter, Karen Elizabeth White; her siblings, Hazel Battle, Marvina Sanner, Emmarene Creamer, Nadine Haase and Bruce Hobbs and her beloved chihuahua, Taco.

Mrs. June lived most of her life in Bleckley County and was a graduate of Cochran High School. After being a stay-at-home mom for many years, she returned to the workforce in 1980 as an executive assistant at Robins Air Force Base, retiring in 1998. Mrs. June was a homemaker, devoted wife and a loving mother. She also had many talents. She was an excellent seamstress, sewing clothes for her daughters and herself, making draperies, and doing reupholstery. She would make desk bags, every year for all the students in her daughter's classes. She was an excellent cook. She was an avid reader who always had a book in her hand. She loved being outdoors working in the flowerbeds or tending to her yard. She also enjoyed gardening and planting flowers. Her family said, "She had a real green thumb; she could make anything grow." Mrs. June also loved her family dearly and was devoted to her Husband, Mr. Emmett, her three daughters, Pam, Karen and Emily and her grandchildren, Megan, Jarrod, Morgan and Chelsea. She cared unselfishly and lovingly for her daughter, Karen, who suffered from a chronic illness for many years. She was the epitome of a wife of noble character.

Mrs. June was a faithful servant of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was also a faithful member at Salem Baptist Church. She served as a church secretary and she helped start the Women's Missionary Union at Salem Baptist Church. She enjoyed visiting the elderly and sick in the community and preparing meals for them.

Survivors are her husband, Emmett White of Bleckley County; her daughters, Pam (Jeff) Leddy of Indialantic, FL and Emily White Whaley of Perry; her grandchildren, Megan (Jeremy) Painter, Jarrod (Gaby) Leddy, Morgan (Nathan) Julsonnet and Chelsea (Cole) Roberts; 7 great grandchildren; her sisters, "Tina" Martin and Geraldine Chapmen; her caregiver and special friend, Janice Payung, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will be at the residence of Mr. Emmett White, 1139 GA Highway 278, Montrose, and will greet friends from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M., Saturday at Salem Baptist Church.
