Obituary

Memorial services for Mrs. Marthellis Barlow Lunsford, age 81, of Cochran, who went to be with the Lord Thursday, July 9, 2020, in At Home Senior Living, will be held Saturday, July 11,2020, at 11 AM at Ruth Baptist Church where she was a member.

Marthellis was born January 6, 1939 in Bleckley County. She was the daughter of the late Leland Ellis and Ruth Bollinger Barlow and was preceded in death by her husband Woodie Hal Lunsford. She was a graduate of Cochran High School and Georgia College. In her earlier career, she served as a Home Demonstration Agent in the Hazlehurst area.  In those days, women mostly worked at home. She would bring the local women together to share tips on canning, freezing and home beautification projects. She also was a teacher and after earning her Master's Degree in Library Science, she served as the librarian at Bleckley County High School until she retired. She was active member in the Georgia Retired Educator Association. Marthellis was a faithful member of Ruth Baptist church from early childhood.  She served in many capacities: church clerk, historian, church bulletin preparation, outreach chairperson notifying of church family needs and supporting all community needs. She lovingly bequeathed the family clubhouse, built with local farm logs by community members, to Ruth Baptist Church for custodial and safekeeping for future generations.

Survivors are her children, Amy Lunsford (Kip) Hulett of Cochran and Leland Hal (Laura) Lunsford of Evans; grandchildren, Angel (Ronnie) Cason, Dr. Katie (Donald) Googe, Jr., Steely Lunsford, Taylor Lunsford, Noah Lunsford; great grandsons, Trent Davis, R.J. Cason, Joel Cason and Dakota Cason.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude and appreciation to the entire staff of At Home Senior Living for their help during this difficult time.

Memorials may be made to Ruth Baptist Church, 216 Ruth Church Road, Cochran, GA 31014 or Heart of Georgia Hospice, 103 Westridge Dr, Warner Robins, GA 31088.
