Obituary

Roddy – Matthew M. Jones, age 90, died Saturday, November 23, 2019, in Quality Health Services Hospice in Eastman. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 25, 2019, at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Mathis Funeral Home. Burial will be private in Bowers Cemetery.

Mr. Jones lived his entire life in the Roddy Community in Dodge County. He was the son of the late Jack and Beatrice Molder Jones, was preceded in death by his much beloved wife of over 60 years Nannette Harrell Jones and his sister Janis Jones Stewart. He was a diversified farmer growing cotton, corn, soy beans and livestock. He was a graduate of Chester High School and attended Abraham Baldwin College. He was a member of the Georgia Farm Bureau, the Georgia Cattleman's Association and had served on the Board of Directors and Secretary-Treasurer for Ocmulgee EMC. He was former Middle Georgia Farmer of the Year and Dodge County Farmer of the year. He loved farming and was a skilled welder and was known for his ability to fix anything. He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church.

Survivors are his children, Suenette (Dan) Dill of Clarkesville, Jack M. (Sherry) Jones of Cochran, Gretel (Lee) Tidmore of Dahlonega, and Lesa (David) Shoe of Valdosta; grandchildren, Mandy (Jack) White, Beth (T.J.) Hausauer, Adam Shoe and Laura Shoe; six great-grandchildren; sister, Susie Jones Lister of Roddy; several nieces and nephews; his caregivers, Helen Jones, Bonny Wray and Lisa Burnham and his dog Bo.

Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to Quality Health Services Hospice, 818 Professional Center, Eastman, GA 31023.

The family will be at 1877 West Chicken Road, Cochran and will greet friends one hour before the service Monday at Mathis Funeral Home.
