Opal Hobbs, age 87, passed away on Friday, November 6, 2026, in PruittHealth-Peake in Macon. A visitation will be held on Monday, November 16, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Mathis Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, November 17, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Mathis Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Opal Hobbs was born and raised in Cochran, Georgia. She spent her life caring for those she loved and was a proud mother of two daughters and grandmother of four. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Cochran, Georgia.

Opal worked at the shirt factory and enjoyed baking, sewing, playing card games, and spending time with family. She lovingly made clothing and bedding for her daughters and grandchildren, leaving behind pieces of her love that will be treasured for years to come. She was especially known for her delicious chocolate cake, banana nut bread, and biscuits, which will be fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of enjoying them.

She was preceded in death by her husband, JB Hobbs, and her youngest daughter, Karen Lassiter.

She is survived by her eldest daughter, Kim Brunner (the late Randy); her son-in-law, Tim Lassiter (Renae); her four grandchildren, Wesley Abney (Kim), Meg Woods (Brian), Emily Brunner (Shane Veal), and Jay Brunner; along with many beloved nieces and nephews and extended family.

Opal will be remembered as a sweet and loving soul whose legacy lives on through the memories, traditions, handmade treasures, recipes, and stories she leaves behind. She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
