Cochran - Robert Jordan Smith, age 89, passed away peacefully Monday, June 12, 2023, at Atrium Health Navicent Medical Center in Macon surrounded by his loving family. He was a retired business owner and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 16, 2023, at 2:00 PM in Trail Branch Primitive Baptist Church in Bleckley County. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Cochran with military honors.
Jordan was born in Bleckley County on January 24,1934 to the late Frazier and Lassie King Smith. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, Grace M. Smith and his son, Mike Smith. The youngest of eight children, he was also preceded in death by his sisters Sara Smith Horne, Nina Smith Ligon, Jackie Smith Haupt, his brothers, Earnest Smith, W.O. "Pete" Smith, Frazier "Buddy" Smith, and Ray Smith. He was a 1953 graduate of Cochran High School and a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corp. On June 29, 1954 he married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Grace Mullis. A man with an impeccable work ethic, he began delivering groceries on a bicycle at the age of 12 and was still operating a part-time radiator repair shop at the time of his death. Jordan loved the Lord, his family, fishing, and working in his (really large) yard. He loved his neighbors and never met a stranger. If you were a friend, you had a friend for life. He was of the Primitive Baptist faith, and a member of Trail Branch Primitive Baptist Church.
He is survived by daughters, Julie Smith of Savannah, Pam Johnston and her husband Kim of Macon; son Kevin (Lisa King) Smith of Cochran, daughter-in- law Diane Smith of Cochran; grandchildren Cindy (Robert) Eunice of Greenville, S.C., Jason Smith of Tulsa, OK, Jamie (Nicole) Smith of Cochran, and Matt Simpson of Danville, VA; great grandchildren Rachel (Will) Brown, Dalton Eunice, and Lily Smith; several nieces and nephews.
The family is at 128 Sandpiper Road, Cochran and will greet friends one hour before the service Friday at Trail Branch Primitive Baptist Church.
