Cochran - Ronda Katrina Lister Young, age 93, passed away at her residence on Monday, December 14, 2020. Private funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at 3:00 P.M. in the chapel of Mathis Funeral Home. Burial will be private in Pulaski-Bleckley Memorial Gardens.
Ronda was born in Cochran, GA. on January 12, 1927 to the late Homer Churchwell Lister and Willie Belle Sanders Lister. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Joseph Vance Young, Jr., her sister and best friend, Merle Corene Scarborough Cole, and one grandchild, Will. She attended Union Hill High School during her freshman and sophomore years, transferring to Cochran High School for her junior and senior years, graduating in 1943. Ronda was a diligent student, graduating from Middle Georgia College in 1945 having earned a spot on the honor list. She then accepted the position of secretary to the school's president from 1945 to 1946. Another cherished chapter of her life opened when she married Joseph Vance Young Jr. in 1947 and began raising her family. Ronda was also active in the Cochran First United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the James Chambers Sunday School Class and the United Methodist Women. She returned to the position of secretary to the president at Middle Georgia College in 1963 and served in that capacity until her retirement in 1990. During this time, Ronda was well known as a tireless advocate for excellence in academics and an avid cheerleader for the school's athletic programs.
Ronda is survived by her four children, Kay Young Peppers of Elberton, GA.; Dawn Young of Macon, GA., Dick (Mary Ann) Young of Cochran, GA., and Robin Young Wilkey of Okaloosa Island, FL.; four grandchildren, Heather, Autumn, Millie, and Joe; and three great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made to the Cochran First United Methodist Church, PO Box 87, Cochran, GA 31014.
