A visitation and viewing will be held Sunday, July 7, 2024, for the family from 11:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M followed by a visitation for friends from 12:00 P.M. until 1:30 P.M. in the chapel of Mathis Funeral Home. Sylvia was born on May 8th,1936 in Wrightsville, Ga. She was the 9th of ten children. She was the daughter of the late John Thomas Davis and Bessie (Brown) Davis and was preceded in death by her husband William C. Rowland; her siblings, Nan Davis Ellington, Sam "Doc" Davis, Richard Davis, Helen Davis Mayo, Fred Davis, Thomas "Brown" Davis, Harold Davis and Carolyn Davis Mullins.

She graduated from Wrightsville High School in 1955 and moved on to Berry College and graduated in 1959 with a degree in Elementary Education. Sylvia met the love of her life at Berry and married William C. Rowland (Chester, Ga) on July 3rd,1960. She taught school in Cobb County, Ga for 30 years and loved it so much she worked as a teachers aid for another 8 years.

Sylvia was a true servant to others and never said a negative word about anyone. If you started to be negative, she would redirect you and remind you to look at the good in everyone. You would never leave her house hungry. She would restock your plate without you knowing! I think she thought no one ever got "full"! She taught Sunday school for years and then took pride in being a greeter at Trinity Baptist Church in Smyrna, Ga.

Sylvia's biggest joy was when her children and grandchildren gathered in her home. Holiday or no holiday she was tickled pink to get out her china and serve a meal. In mom's last days, she called out all her grandchildren's names and said how much she loved them. In private moments, she told her son, daughter, son-in-law and daughter-in-law they had done well and had beautiful families that loved the Lord, they were to keep strong and to live with no regrets. She was ready to meet Jesus and her W.C.!

Survivors are her son, William Cleveland Rowland Jr. (Gail); her daughter, Cynthia Rowland Carpenter (Phil); her sister, Cynthia Davis Greene; her grandchildren Will Rowland (Allison), Catelyn Carpenter Wright (Brett), Carolyn Grace Carpenter (Micah) and Austin Rowland; her great grandchildren, William Gunnar Rowland, Cameron Grace Wright, Stetson Lane Rowland and one on the way.
