Obituary

Cochran – Trenna Rebecca Bates Barrs, age 83, passed into the loving arms of her Savior on Saturday, January 2, 2021 in Taylor Regional Hospital in Hawkinsville. Graveside funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 5, 2021, at 11:00 A.M. in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Barrs was a native of Empire, Georgia and the daughter of the late Mr. Arthur M. and Mrs. Laura Susan Jones Bates. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Mr. John W. (Johnny) Barrs, Jr., an infant daughter Miss Tina Marie Barrs, her daughter-in-law, Shannon Frost Barrs; her sisters, Leora Sands, Lavanda Jones, Delsa Taylor and Erma Jean Kroesser and her brothers, Arvin Bates, Arlie Merle Bates, Rupert Bates and Patrick Bates. Mrs. Trenna, as she was fondly known, was a member of Cochran First Baptist Church and the Lucille Wilson Sunday School Class. She was a graduate of Middle Georgia College and Georgia College and State University. Having earned her Master's Degree in Special Education, she went on to teach in the Bleckley County School System for over 20 years. Trenna was a military wife, a farmer's wife, a homemaker, a mother, and an educator.

She is survived by three sons, Randy Barrs of Statesboro, GA, Ronnie (Judy) Barrs of Cary, GA and Richard (RuthAnn) Barrs of Cochran, GA; twelve grandchildren: Matthew Barrs, Daniel Barrs, Haley (Andrew) Hopkins, Heidi (Bobby) Lyne, Benjamin (Ansley) Moore, Chessie (Brett) Babcock, Katy (Nick) Floyd, Richard (Katie) Barrs, Ryan Barrs, Robert (Heather) Barrs, Niki (Chad) Oginz and Jared (Karen) Daniels; seventeen great-grandchildren: Seabie Cone, Harper Babcock, Aubree Moore, Blair Moore, Logan Barrs, Evan Barrs, Saylor Barrs, Sadie Barrs, Greyson Barrs, Adalynn Barrs, Ronan Barrs, Payton Oginz, Bella Oginz, Alivia Daniels, Riley Williams, Jamie Williams and Jared Daniels; her brothers, W.L.(Joann) Bates, Lamont (Betty) Bates and John Layton (Glenda) Bates; her aunt, Mary Jones Holmes of Macon; several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be sent to either Cochran First Baptist Church, 101 South Second St., Cochran, GA 31014 or Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, 134 Abney Road, Cochran, GA 31014.

The family will be at 459 Lucas Rd., Cochran, however, due to Covid issues, discretion is advised.
