Virgil Eugene Holt, 92, of Cochran, GA, passed away peacefully in the early hours of Saturday, June 28, 2025, surrounded by family.

Born on February 17, 1933, in Gresston, GA, Virgil was the son of the late Archie Roosevelt Holt and Alva Bollinger. After graduating from Dodge High School, class of 1950, he proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and dedicated his career to Robins Air Force Base until his retirement. A devoted family man, he married his beloved wife, Nina Dell NeSmith in 1952. An avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting, fishing, and piddlin' in the woods. Most of all, he cherished spending quality time with his family. Virgil's memory will be treasured by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his wife Nina Dell Holt; siblings: brothers Archie Roosevelt Holt Jr. and Gerald W. Holt; sister Betty Jean Purser; half-sister Margarite Hamlin.

Virgil is survived by his daughter, Debra Thursby (Randall) of Cochran, GA; grandchildren Michelle Evans (Brad Sirmons) of Culpeper, VA, Daniel Thursby (Krystina) of Youngsville, LA, and Melissa Belflower (Chris) of Forsyth, GA; great-grandchildren Emerson, Elizabeth and Emilia Belflower, and Holt Thursby; several nieces and nephews. Margaret Harris, a friend to Virgil and his family, sat by his side faithfully during his final years.

A visitation will be held Tuesday, July 1, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Mathis Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Mathis Funeral Home. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

As in the words of the man himself - "Whatever"
