W.H. "Junior"
Kitchens, Jr.
Oct 31, 1937 — May 21, 2025
Cochran - W.H. "Junior" Kitchens, Jr., age 87, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, May 21, 2025. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Mathis Funeral Home. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. A private burial will be held at Salem Baptist Church Cemetery.
Born and raised in Bleckley County, Mr. Junior was a lifelong resident of Cochran, Georgia. He was the son of the late W.H. "Doc", Sr. and Alma Davis Kitchens. He was preceded in death by his wife, Oneta Cannon Kitchens, his brother, Emmett (Imogene) Kitchens and his sister, Doris (Ivey) Nixon.
From an early age, Mr. Junior worked alongside his parents on the family farm, where he developed a deep love for the land. For him, farming was never just an occupation—it was a calling and a way of life. After spending several years working as a truck driver and mechanic for Colonial Baking Company in Macon, he returned to Bleckley County to farm full-time. Later in life, he drove for Howard Sheppard Trucking Company, where he earned the respect of his coworkers for his strong work ethic and reliability. Mr. Junior treasured nearly 65 years with his beloved wife, Oneta, and found deep joy and pride in the lives of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandson.
He is survived by his sons, Doug (Tracee) Kitchens and Kirk (Sarah) Kitchens; his beloved grandchildren, Colby (Chelsea) Kitchens, Lauren Kitchens, and Natalie Kitchens; and his great-grandson, Henry Kitchens. He also leaves behind his brother, Wilbur (Matile) Kitchens, and his sister, Ruthie (Wayne) Dennis, along with many dear nieces, nephews, and extended family members who brought him joy throughout his life.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salem Baptist Church Cemetery Fund (c/o Deborah Fordham, 1127 Rebie Rd., Chester, GA 31012) or to a church or charity/organization of donor's choice.
The family is at 125 Fordham-Mullis Road, Cochran.
