Cochran – William "Bill" Dinsmore Shilling, Jr., age 84, died Tuesday, October 20, 2020, in Fairview Park Hospital. Memorial services will be held Friday, October 23, 2020, at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Mathis Funeral Home with Rev. Don McClung officiating.

Mr. Shilling was born in Pittsburgh, PA in 1935.  He was the eldest child of William D Shilling, Sr. and Josephine D Lombardo Shilling.  Bill graduated from Lakeland High School and attended Florida Southern College for his Bachelor's Degree and the University of Michigan for his Master's Degree in business.  After serving two years in the Army, Bill worked for IBM as a systems manager, an educator, and finally as an international systems manager, fueling his love for traveling the world.  After retirement, Bill was actively involved in history and political science, writing articles and making presentations to the United Nations group in Gainesville, FL and taught political science for several years at Middle Georgia College.

Bill is survived by his wife of 63 years, Iris Sonja Shilling; his four children,  William D. "Dr. Bill" Shilling, III of Cochran, GA, David A. Shilling of Bandon, Ireland, Wendy S. Shilling Boyce of Blairsville, GA and Robin F. Shilling of Kamas, Utah; his sister, Margaret Tramontano of Woodstock, GA;  eleven grandchildren,  Michael Shilling and Patrick Shilling of Warner Robins, GA, Sophie G Shilling of Cochran, GA, Josh Riley and Nikki Lance of Blairsville, GA, Stephanie Boyce Smith of Blue Ridge, GA, Christina Shilling of Waterford, Ireland, Emily Shilling, Allison Shilling, Andrea Shilling of Bandon, Ireland; and Kumar Chatterjee of Hong Kong; five  great-grandchildren, Summer Shilling and Hayden Shilling of Warner Robins, GA, Conner and Charlotte Lance of Blairsville, GA and Logan Boyce of Blue Ridge, GA.

The family will greet friends after the service Friday at Mathis Funeral Home.
